 3.1. Type of Desktop Operating System:

The type of desktop operating system depends on the manufacturer and can be either Windows, macOS, or Linux. Windows is the most widely used operating system, followed by macOS and Linux.

3.2. Graphical User Interface (GUI) - Desktop:

The graphical user interface (GUI) is the visual component of the desktop operating system that enables users to interact with the computer system through icons, menus, and windows. The desktop GUI provides a user-friendly environment for accessing and managing files, applications, and system settings.

3.3. Windows/File Explorer:

Windows/File Explorer is a file management tool that allows users to browse and manage files and folders on the computer system. It provides a hierarchical view of files and folders organized by directories.

• 3.3.1. Directory structure and paths:                                                                                          The directory structure is the organization of files and folders in a hierarchical tree-like structure. Each level of the directory tree is represented by a folder or subdirectory. The path is the location of a file or folder in the directory structure, represented by a series of folder names separated by backslashes ().
• 3.3.2. Working with Files/Folders/Shortcuts: In Windows/File Explorer, users can perform various operations on files, folders, and shortcuts. They can create, copy, move, rename, and delete files and folders. They can also create and modify shortcuts to files and folders for quick access.

3.4. Starting an Application:

To start an application in Windows, users can click on the Start button and select the application from the list of installed programs. Alternatively, they can use the search bar to find the application.

• 3.4.1. WordPad: WordPad is a basic text editor application that allows users to create and edit documents. To start WordPad in Windows, users can click on the Start button, select All Apps, and then click on Windows Accessories. From there, they can click on WordPad to open the application.
• 3.4.2. Microsoft Paint: Microsoft Paint is a simple graphics editing application that allows users to create and edit images. To start Microsoft Paint in Windows, users can click on the Start button, select All Apps, and then click on Windows Accessories. From there, they can click on Paint to open the application.
• 3.4.3. Typing Practice: Typing practice is an application that helps users improve their typing speed and accuracy. There are various online and offline typing practice applications available.

3.5. Copy/Paste/Rename a File or Folder:

To copy a file or folder in Windows/File Explorer, users can right-click on the file or folder, select Copy, navigate to the destination folder, right-click, and select Paste. To rename a file or folder, users can right-click on the file or folder, select Rename, type in the new name, and press Enter.

3.6. Scan a File/Folder with Antivirus:

To scan a file or folder with an antivirus program, users can right-click on the file or folder, select Scan with [Antivirus program], and wait for the scan to complete. The antivirus program will detect and remove any viruses or malware found on the file or folder. It is important to keep the antivirus program updated to ensure the latest virus definitions are used during the scan.
